INCREDIBLE CATERPILLAR FUNGUS! / INCROYABLE CHENILLE CHAMPIGNON!

Few months ago, I showed on my blog the following picture of what I thought was edible caterpillar. I was wrong, its a fungus and a prized Chinese and Asian medicine. Let me explain what I just learnt watching television yesterday, then checking on internet!!! .

Il y a quelques mois, j'ai montre sur ce blog la photo suivante de ce que je croyais etre des chenilles comestibles, je me trompais, ce sont des champignons (fungus), des medicaments chinois et asiatiques tres recherches. Laissez-moi vous expliquer ce que je viens d'apprendre en regardant a television hier , puis en verifiant sur Internet!!!

This "thing" according to Wikipedia and others articles,  let me quote wikipedia : "is called Ophiocordyceps Sinensis, it's a fungus that parasitizes the larvae of Ghost Moths. It germinates in the living larva, kills and mummifies it, then a stalk like fruiting body emerges from the corpse, through what was once the head."

Cette "chose" d'apres Wikipedia et autres articles, je cite: "est appelee "Ophiocordyceps Sinensis", c'est un champignon qui parasite les larves de Papillon de nuit Fantome. Elle germe dans la chenille vivante, la tue et la momifie, puis une tige sort du corps de la larve en sortant par ce qui fut la

tete."

 

This caterpillar fungus, originated in Tibet, Nepal Buthan and Himalayas plateau at an altitude of 3000 to 5000. It spends 5 years underground before pupating. According to South China Morning Post, the Ophiocordyceps Sinensis is more valuable than gold. It is worth 170 US $ one piece. The annual production on the Tibetan plateau was estimated in 2009 at 80 to 175 tons. There is a rush every year to gather this mane.

Ce champignon-chenille, est originaire du Tibet, Nepal, Butan et plateau Himalayin a une altitude de 3000 a 5000 m. Il passe 5 annees sous terre avant de muter en germant. D'apres le South China Morning Post, le Ophiocordyceps Sinensis vaut plus cher que l'or. Ca vaut 175 US dollars la piece. La production du plateau Tibetain a ete evaluee en 2009 a 80 a 175 tonnes. Il y a chaque annee une ruee vers cette mane.

 Why is it so popular and expansive? Because it has long been used in Chinese and Asian medicine against fatigue and cancer. Modern research seems to confirm the benefit of that product. 

Pourquoi est-il aussi populaire? Parce qu'il a ete utilise depuis des siecles en Medecine Chinoise et Asiatique contre la faitgue et le cancer. La recherche moderne semble confirmer les bienfaits de ce produit.


I was laughting and joking about this product, I should have known better... it seems very important to our Chinese friends. Question : Is a fungus in a momified larva skin kosher?????


Je riais et plaisantais sur ce produit, sans savoir... Il semblerait qu'il soit tres important pour nos amis Chinois, Question : Est-ce qu'un champignon dans une peau momifiee de chenille est Casher????
