Jews have lived in Bukhara for more than thousand years, as long as the Silk Road existed. We were hoping that we would find very old tombs in the cemetary but the oldest ones dated from the mid XIXth century. (Idem in Samarkande so he old cmetaries must have disappeared as the towns extended.)
Boukhara's cemetary was half Bukharian, half Sovietic, with photos on the tombstones, till the 1990 and the autonomy of Uzbekistan. Those photos were fascinating but it was pouring rain and we did not stay long.
At the far end of the cemetary was a small building for services and a Mikve (ritual bath) which is not frequent in Jewish cemetaries.
