We are just back from 10 days on a Jewish Heritage Trip to beautiful Uzbekistan. As people in Hong Kong seemed so surprised we were willing to visit Uzbekistan, a rough country with a terrible dictatorship, we decided it would be safer to arrive from London with the rest of the group.
Nous revenons tout juste d'un voyage de groupe sur les traces de la communaute Juive, en Ouzbekistan ce pays superbe. Comme tout le monde a Hong Kong avait l'air etonne de ce voyage, dans un pays rude, avec une dictature terrible, nous decidames pour plus de securite, d'arriver de Londres avec le reste du groupe.
We were the only ones with "visas on arrival" in Tachkent, as there is no Uzbek Consulate in Hong Kong. The travel agency had prepared all the papers for us and we arrived with all the photos US dollars and papers needed. It only took half an hour to get our visas. The rest of the group was waiting for us in the coach.
Nous etions les seuls avec "visas a l'arrivee" a Tachkent, puisqu'il n'y a pas de consulat Ouzbek a Hong Kong. L'agence de voyage avait prepare tous les papier requis pour nous, et nous arrivames avec tous les papiers, les photos et les dollars US necessaires.Cela ne prit qu'une demie-heure pour obtenir nos visas. Le reste du groupe nous attendait dans le car.
After checking in at the hotel and having a short rest, we visited the largest square called Independance Square in the Modern Tachkent, then we took the amazing underground where photographs are forbidden. and we we saw a beautiful Madrassah (religious college some still in activity) in the North of town with a bazaar and lots of tourists.

Apres s'etre installes a l'hotel et apres un bref repos, nous avons visite la plus grande place de la ville, appelee Independance Square dans le Tachkent moderne, puis nous avons pris e fabuleux metro ou les photos sont rigoureusement interdites, et nous avos vu une belle Madrassah (college Islamique certains toujours en activite) au Nord de la ville, avec un bazar situe dans une ancienne madrassah,et bien sur, beaucoup de touristes.

I was happily surprised to see how nice the Uzbeks are. They are very polite, smile to tourists and love to have their photo taken next to foreigners. We find them exotic in their traditional clothes, they find us as strange and funny in our western clothes.

They mixtt up Jews and Israelis, but seen from Central Asia, there is little difference. |
J'ai ete agreablement surprise de voir les Ouzbeks si gentils. Ils sont polis, souriant aux touristes, et adorant etre pris en photos avec eux. Nous les trouvons exotiques avec leurs vetements traditionnels, ils nous trouvent tout aussi curieux avec nos costumes occidentaux.
In the evening, we wanted to go to some opera, ballet or concert but Tachkent Opera is being renovated. All our guide could find us was an "A capella" concert by a local choir. We took a cab and went to a very charming amators concert, with individual lovely voices, it was delightful. It finished round 10.30pm and we could not find a taxi, but many private cars kept stopping willing to take us.
Le soir, nous voulions aller a l'opera, au concert ou au ballet mais l'opera de Tahkent etant en renovation, tout ce que notre guide put nous trouver fut un concert "a Capella" par un choeur local. Nous primes un taxi de l'hotel et assistames a un charmant recital amateur, avec quelques voix individuelles tres belles, tout a fait charmant. Cela finit vers 10h30 du soir et nous ne pumes trouver de taxi, alors que plethore de voitures individuelles nous proposaient de nous vehiculer.
A beautiful young girl next to us, also coming from the concert hall, climbed in an unknown car so we thought it might not be so dangerous after all and we negociated a price with a young driver who effectively took us back to our hotel, scared to death by his driving style but sound and safe. Apparently in Tachkent, it's a current practice for private drivers to make some money by taking paying passengers. Apparently, it's a very common in Tachkent.
Une ravissante jeune fille a cote de nous, venant aussi de la salle de concert, monta dans un vehicule inconnu, donc nous nous dimes que ce n'etait peut-etre pas si dangereux apres tout et nous negociames le prix avec un jeune conducteur qui effectivement nous ramena a notre hotel, terrorrises par sa facon de conduire, mais sains et saufs en fin de compte. Apparemment a Tachkent, les conducteurs prives, se font un peu d'argent en prenant des passagers moyennant finance. Tout le monde le fait, semble-t-il.
