WEDDING ANNIVERSARY / ANNIVERSAIRE DE MARIAGE

Saturday was our Anniversary, we have been married for 31 years; Usually, for our anniversary, Mark takes me to a very good restaurant, always a nice surprise! This year he chosed "Bel Canto" in Neuilly (a suburb of Paris); It's a delicious restaurant where there is an enormous piano played by a very talented pianist; The waiters and waitresses are opera singers who both take your order and serve you and also from time to time go near the piano and sing famous opera songs; They have fantastic voices, very powerful; Sometimes they go upstairs (there is a first floor) and you don't see them but you hear them.

Samedi, c'etait notre 31eme anniversaire de mariage; Traditionnellement, Mark m'emmene dans un excellent restaurant, toujours une surprise agreable! Cette annee il a choisi le "Bel Canto" a Neuilly. C'est un excellent restaurant oui trone un enorme piano, sur lequel joue un pianiste de talent; Les serveurs et serveuses sont des chanteurs d'opera qui prennent votre commande, vous servent et de temps en temps, s'approchent du piano pour chanter de celebres airs d'opera. Ils ont des voix superbes et tres puissantes. Parfois ils montent au premier etage, alors on ne les voit plus mais on les entend bien.

It's very well done, you can eat peacefully, suddenly, the lights are briefly switched down, so you know there is going to be some singing and you stop eating to listen. Then some of the waiters go near the pîano, some times a solist, sometime a duo, sometimes 4 singers, 2 upstairs, 2 downstairs where our table was. I am not very learned in opera, I recognize most of the tunes but am unable to say exactly which opera they come from; The waiters gladly give you the answer if yu ask, they love talking to you and answering your questions; We spent there a fabulous evening, and drunk lovely champagne! Mark choses so well this year!

C'est tres bien fait, vous dinez tranquillement, soudain la lumiere s'eteint brievement pour vous prevenir qu'il va y avoir du chant, et vous vous arretez de manger pour ecouter. Alors, des serveurs s'approchent du piano parfois un soliste, parfois un duo, ou un quatuor : deux en haut et deux en bas la ou se situait notre table. Je ne suis pas tres calee en opera, je reconnais la pluspart des airs, sans arriver a les identifier, ni a savoir de quel opera ils viennent; Les serveurs sont ravis de vous renseigner si vous le leur demandez; ils adorent discuter avec le public et repondre aux questions. Nous avons passe une merveilleuse soiree arrosee de champagne bien sur! Mark a vraiment bien choisi cette annee!
