HONG KONG OLD VILLAGES / VIEUX VILLAGES DE HONG KONG

Yesterday,we went to the New Territories (North West of Hong Kong) to see old villages. I had met a charming French Lady, Cecile Thomas. who has been living in Hong Kong for 15 years and who is occasionnaly acts as a touristic guide for friends. She knows the story of Hong Kong developpment, and she took Mark and I, to the old villages around Yuen Long, such as Yin Leng, Nam Pin etc...

Hier, nous sommes alles dans les Nouveaux Territoires (au Nord Ouest de Hong Kong). J'ai rencontre une charmante dame Francaise, Cecile Thomas, qui habite Hong Komng depuis 15 ans et qui occasionnellement fait le guide touristique pour des amis. 
Elle connait parfaitement l'historique du developpement de Hong Kong, et elle nous a emmenes, Mark et moi, dans les vieux villages autour de Yuen Long, comme Yin Leng, Nam Pin etc...

We took bus 968 from Causeway Bay, near our home, to Yuen Long. It took us 45 mn on a highway going north, till Yuen Long. From the hills around Yuen Long, not far away in the mist, we could see Shenzen the Main Land China neighbor city. From HK you can get to Shenzen by train or MTR (metro) or bus, but foreigners like us need a visa.

Nous avons pris le bus 968 de  Causeway Bay, pres de chez nous jusqu'a Yuen Long et ca nous a pris 45mn par l'autoroute vers le nord. Sur les hauteurs de Yuen Long, on voyait tout pres, dans la brume, la ville voisine de Shenzen en Chine Continentale. On peut y aller de Hong Kong en train, MTR (metro)  ou bus, mais les etrangers comme nous, ont besoin d'un visa. 

I took many photos in the villages, of the old houses, but also of everyday life, and I'll show them to you in different post. Some villages are "open" (not surrounded by a wall) others are walled and some of their walls and protecting towers still remain nowadays.They were falling in ruin, but nowadays, they are restored and better kept.

Open village, the houses have supplementary floors because young generation come to live in the house and the family builds an additional floor for them.  

Village ouvert. Les maisons sont rehaussees car les jeunes generations viennent vivre dans la maison familiale et on leur construit une extension en hauteur.

Dans les villages, j'ai pris beaucoup de photos des vieilles maisons, mais aussi des scenes de la rue, je vais donc vous les montrer en plusieurs articles. Certains villages sont "ouverts" (non entoures de murs) d'autres sont "fortifies"et il reste des parties de leur enceinte et des tours protectrices. Ils tombaient en ruine, mas maintenant, on les restaure et ils sont mieux entretenus.

Porte d'un village anciennement fortifie, dont l'enceinte a disparu au fur et a mesure des rehabilitation de maisons. Les habitants voulant des fenetres, ont abattu le mur./  Gate of a village which used to be walled but the wall was distroyed as the inhabitants renovating their homes, wanted to have windows.
