CENTRAL ESCALATOR / L'ESCALIER ROULANT DE CENTRAL

In Hong Kong, there is the longest outdoor covered escalator in the world.(800m or 2600ft according to Wikipedia and it elevates 135m or 443 ft) It goes from Central (the business district), to Mid-level,(the elegant and very expansive area above Central). Many expats who work in finance, live up-there, in small flats in very high buildings. 

A Hong-Kong, il y a le plus long escalier roulant  exterieur et couvert du monde. (800m de distance couverte et 135m de denivellement) Il va de Central (Le quartier des affaires), a Mid-Level (un quartier elegant et tres cher, au-dessus de Central). Beaucoup d'expatries qui travaillent dans la finance, habitent la-haut, dans de petits appartements au sein de tres hauts buildings.

In the morning, as people go to work in Central or to take the MTR (metro) there, from 6 a.m to 10 am, the escalator goes down from Mid Level to Central, afterwards, from 10.30 am to midnight, it goes up. This escalator was built in 1993.

Le matin, comme les gens vont travailler a Central ou prendre le MTR (metro) la-bas, de 6h du matin a 10h, l'escalier roulant descend de Mid-level a Central, le reste de la journee, de 10h30 a minuit, il monte. Il a ete construit en 1993. D'apres Wikipedia, 55 000 personnes l'empruntent chaque jour.

Yesterday afternoon, I went by taxi to synagogue to give the reception greetings cards for Jewish New Year, which I had designed and printed and which will be sold for a charity. On the way back, I decided to take the escalator, which was going up and as I was going down to Central, I took the stairs along the escalator, but enjoyed the 20 mn walk down by a very hot afternoon.According to Wikipedia 55 000 people use it every day.

Hier apres-midi, je suis allee en taxi a la synagogue donner a la reception des cartes de Nouvel An Juif que j'avais dessinees et fait impriner, et qu'ils vont vendre au profit d'une association. Pour rentrer, je decidais de prendre l'escalier roulant qui a cette heure-la monte, alors que je descendais. Donc j'entrepris de descendre les escaliers qui le longent, et je pris grand plaisir a cette marche de 20 mn en descente, sous une chaleur terrible.

As I was walking at the level of buildings first floor, I could see very well in those narrow streets, the first floor of shops, of restaurants and of course of bamboo scaffolding which are every where in HK.  
                                

Comme on deambule au niveau d'un premier etage, on voit de pres dans les ruelles etroites, le premier etage de magasins ou de restaurants, et bien sur les inevitables echaffaudages de bambou.

                                                                           

         

Further down a young woman was playing a Chinese instrument.

Plus loin, une jeune musicienne jouait d'un instrument Chinois.

            

Nice way to go to work, or nice walk for tourists, or woman of leisure like me.        

Joli trajet, ou jolie promenade pour les touristes ou les femmes inactives comme moi.

Last Saturday, we attended the Jean Wong School of Ballet performance. We went with Chun Wing's parents and sister Yan Kiu. Chun Wing was dancing, he was dancing a modern ballet by a Spanish Choregrapher, and he was the Prince in Cinderella. It was a great pleasure to see him on 
stage in Hong Kong.

  

Samedi dernier, nous avons assiste a le representation des eleves de l'Ecole de Danse Jean Wong. Nous y sommes alles vec les parents et la soeur de Chun Wing. Chun Wing dansait, il tenait un role dans un ballet moderne par un choregraphe espagnol, et il etait le Prince dans Cendrillon. Ce fut un grand plaisir de le voir danser sur scene a Hong Kong.        

As last year, Jean and her daughter Liat were amazingly beautiful and elegant. Mr Chen, Jean's husband was having fun taking thousands of photos.

Everyone was very kind to us, so we had a great evening!

Comme l'annee passee, Jean et sa fille Liat etaient magnifiques et tres elegantes. M. Chen, le mari de Jean s'amusait beaucoup en prenant plein de photos. 

Tout le monde fut tres gentil avec nous et nous passames une merveilleuse soiree!
