PAINTING EXHIBITION / EXPOSITION DE PEINTUREI

I found the invitation in my letter box, all writen in Chinese, but I could read the date, and understood it was an exhibition from Szeto Nigel, the painting teacher of one of our neighbours on our building 3rd floor.

Je trouvais l'invitation dans ma boite a lettre, ecrite toute en Chinois, mais je parvins a lire la date et compris que c'etait une exposition de Szeto Nigel, le professeur de peinture de notre voisine du 3eme etage.

The opening ceremony was yesterday at Central Town Hall so I went and found our neighbour's husband, a retired university professor. Mrs N'g is a leading professor of Szeto school so she was on the stage. I took her husband's photo, I love those old Chinese gentlemen, with a malicious smile, a long greyish or white beard, and very intelligent eyes.

L'exposition ouvrait hier, a la Mairie de Central, donc je m'y rendis et trouvais le mari de notre voisine, un professeur d'universite en retraite. Madame N'g est un des principaux professeurs de l'ecole Szeto, alors elle etait sur l'estrade, mais je pris sa photo a lui. J'adore ces vieux messieurs Chinois au sourire malicieux, a la longue barbe grise ou blanche et aux yeux terriblement intelligents.

There was very long speeches in Cantonese and I did not understand much. So I visited the exhibition and bought a few books on Szeto Nigel's paintings. 

                           

Il y eut force discours en Cantonnais ou je ne compris que de rares mots. Donc j'en profitais pour visiter l'exposition et acheter quelques livres sur les peintures de Szeto Nigel.

I think I was the only westerner. / Je crois bien que j'etais la seule occidentale.

I love Szeto's paintings of flowers and his birds painted in ink. I don't like so much his tigers or his buildings half classical half modern in style.

J'adore ses fleurs et ses oiseaux a l'encre de Chine. J'aime moins ses tigres ou ses batiments de style mi-traditionnels, mi-modernes.


What a pleasure to be able to admire his latest paintings and what a great technic he has! What a great artist he is!

Quel plaisir d'admirer ses dernieres oeuvres. Quelle technique, quel artiste!


Mr N'g and I came back home by MTR under a heavy rain. I thanked him again for the invitation and told him I found that Szeto's flowers had something very masculine in them, he was surprised and said he would tell my remark to his wife. I think a woman painter would not paint flowers with such a strengh in them... 

Mr N'g et moi rentrames ensemble en metro par une pluie battante.. Je le remerciais a nouveau pour l'invitation et lui dit que je trouvais que les fleurs peintes par Szeto avaient quelquec hose de tres masculin. Il fut surpris et me dit qu'il mentionnerait ma remarque a son epouse. Je crois en effet qu'une femme peintre ne peindrait pas des fleurs d'une telle puissance.
