I highly recommand 2 very good, witty, interesting books on Hong Kong and Asia.

The first one was published in 2004 and treats about westerners life in Hong-Kong just after WW2, in the fiftees and sixtees. It is called "Gweilo" Memories of a Hong-Kong childhood. (Gweilo means "foreign-Caucasian-man" in Cantonese by Martin BOOTH. Bantam Books. Printed in England.
Le premier fut publie en 2004 et raconte la vie d'occidentaux a Hong-Kong, juste apres la seconde guerre mondiale, dans les annees cinquante et soixante. Il s'intitule "Gweilo" Memoires d'une enfance a Hong Kong".(Gweilo signifie homme-Caucasien en Cantonnais), par Martin BOOTH. Bantam Books.(editeur) Publie en Angleterre.
It's about a young adventurous English Child, fluent in Cantonese, who explores Kowloon old city before it was destroyed, and the Peak area, and he is so blond that all the Chinese people want to touch his "golden" head for luck and money. It is funny, moving, well written and it describes a traditional Hong Kong that has almost disappeared.
Ca raconte l'histoire d'un petit garcon anglais, tres aventureux, parlant couramment le Cantonnais, qui explore le vieux quartier de Kowloon avant qu'il ne soit rase et le Peak. Il est tellement blond que tous les Chinois veulent toucher sa tete"doree" pour s'attirer chance et fortune. C'est drole, emouvant, bien ecrit et ca decrit un Hong Kong traditionnel qui a presque disparu.

It is unbelievable how rich they are...some of them the old rich families are discreet and low-profile, while others are just horrible and "Nouveau-riches" but this novel gives a funny and interesting idea of their incredible way of life, with private jets and private islands, lavish weddings, jewels and Haute couture....
Le livre parle des familles de milliardaires de Hong Kong, Singapour, Shanghai, Macau et New York. C'est incroyable ce qu'ils peuvent etre riches... certains, les familles les plus fortunees depuis plusieurs generations, sont discrets et font profil bas, tandis que d'autres sont epouvantables et "bling-bling, nouveaux-riches" mais ce roman donne une idee amusante et interessante de leur incroyable mode de vie, jets prives et iles privees, mariage ahurissants de luxe, bijoux et haute-couture...
