ON OUR WAY TO MOUNT POPA / EN ROUTE POUR LE MONT POPA

We had breakfast at 5.30am, then left for the airport. After one hour flight, we had an hour and a half drive to Mount Popa.

Petit dejeuner a 5h30 du matin, puis aeroport. Une heure de vol et 1h30 de route pour nous rndre au Mont Popa.

On the way there were small villages selling their products,mostly from palm trees : palm juice, palm oil, palm alcool, palm sugar etc... and sesame cakes and seeds.

 

 

 

Powdered face / Visage poudre

Many people in Myanmar, mostly women, but also men, put a powder on their cheeks, forehead and face, powder made from a special tree bark and which according to them makes their skin very soft, and protect it from the sun. 

Beaucoup de gens a Myanmar, surtout des femmes mais aussi des hommes, se poudrent les joues et le front, le visage aussi avec une poudre faite a partir d'ecorces d'un arbre special, qui selon eux rend leur peau tres douce et la protege des rayons du soleil. 

En chemin, il y avait de petits villages vendant leurs produits surtout venant des palmiers : jus de palme, huile de palme, alcool, sucre etc... et des graines et gateaux de sesame.

Suddenly, our guide stopped the car, there was a ceremony of Integration, and he thought it might interest us. Every child, boy or girl around the age of 8 wears beautiful garments and hat, rides a horse held by someone and after a ceremony there is a big family meal. Then the child has to spend a week in a monastery with the monks or nuns, away from home for the first time, but considered as an "adult" from now on. The parents are proud and smiling, but the kids are very serious and emotional.

Soudain, notre guide arreta la voiture, il y avait une ceremonie d'Integration, et il pensait que ca pourrait nous interesser. Chaque enfant, garcon ou fille, autour de l'age de 8 ans, porte de beaux vetements et un chapeau, puis monte sur un cheval tenu par quelqu'un, et apres une ceremonie, il y a un grand repas familial. Ensuite l'enfant doit passer une semaine au monastere, avec des moines ou nonnes, hors de sa famille pour la premiere fois, mais considere desormais comme un "adulte". Les parents sont souriants et fiers, mais les enfants sont serieux et emus.

   

 

 

We also visited a village less touristic, saw its cattle and the school. They did not sell anything, but as they had a small shop, I bought a lot of little sweets packets to give the children who quickly spread words to each others. Big children did not take the small children's packets, they were all very nice. 

 

Nous visitames aussi un village moins touristique, dont nous vimes le betail, et l'ecole. Ils ne vendaient rien de special, mais comme il y avait un petit magasin, j'achetai plein de petits sacs de bonbons pour les enfants qui eurent vite fait de se passer le mot. Les grands ne s'emparaient pas des bonbons des plus petits, ils etaient tres gentils.
